1. How long have you been involved in Missions work? I have been working in Mexico for 5 years.
2. Where did you go on your first trip? Juarez, Mexico.
3. What other countries have you visited? Canada.
4. In getting prepared to leave for Missions, what did you find to be your greatest obstacle? Trying to work out all of the details at home with children, schedules and so on, to make sure that everything will work out while I am away.
5. What motivated you to go? The offer became available, and I wanted to be used by God in whatever way He had in order to express His love to other people. After arriving the Lord has captured my heart for the people in Mexico, and my heart has been there ever since.
6. Describe your first thoughts on arriving in a foreign country. I was amazed at how different the culture is and the simple things that we take for granted here, good roads, landscape being clean, etc. And the poverty there is so shocking.
7. What is your favorite memory or most poignant moment? My favorite memory was when we ministered to a group of gang members in one of the cardboard communities in Juarez. We were having church in this community and were about to leave and a group of gang members had gathered near our van. My husband, Jeff, began to speak to them about Jesus. More young boys of the community began to come and listen as well. We began to pray for them and share the gospel with them and the Holy Spirit came and by the end, 18 of the gang members accepted Jesus Christ as their savior. It was an amazing experience to see the power of God fall in such a mighty way! It just goes to show that the Lord can touch anyone when they open their hearts to Him.
8. Have you ever gotten ill or experienced danger on a Missions trip? No, the Lord has kept us very protected on all of our trips.
9. What shocked you the most about conditions you experienced or cultural differences in a country you have visited? The degree of poverty was like nothing I had never experienced before; people living without electricity, running water, etc.; things that we are so accustomed to. People live in a 12x12 room made out of cardboard and wood, yet they are so desperate for God.
10. Do you fund the trips yourself, or rely on contributions from others? My family and I are in ministry full time, and our non-profit ministry is funded by individual contributions and churches, for which we serve as the missions vehicle to take small groups to Mexico on mission trips. Through this we pay for our trips to Mexico.
11. Do you plan on going on another trip, and if so, where? Yes we are in Mexico several times each month because we are in the process of building an orphanage in one of the poorest communities in Juarez that will be a home for 20 children.
